Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

I am sure, many of you are aware of the recent updates of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Caring for You is committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of all staff, patients and residents in relation to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and therefore, are closely monitoring and being guided by the precautions and instruction from the World Health Organisation and the Department of Health.

On 30 January 2020, the World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. With new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) reported on a daily basis around the world, the Australian Government has continued to impose travel restrictions in the country to protect the Australian community.

There are many countries identified as higher risk for COVID-19, and these countries are: Mainland China, Iran, Italy South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Cambodia, Mongolia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and all travel on Cruise ships.
Any healthcare worker or residential aged care worker who has been in these countries in the previous 14 days should not attend work until they have been well for 14 days after leaving those countries.

What you need to do:

If you have been in any of the listed countries above in the past 14 days you are advised to:

  • Stay at home (self-quarantine)
  • Avoid public settings - this means you should not attend work, school, or other public places
  • Do this for 14 days after leaving any of these countries (other than when seeking medical care).

If you are a confirmed case of novel coronavirus; or have developed symptoms of fever and breathing difficulty or cough:

  • Seek medical care
  • Stay at home (other than when seeking medical care)
  • Avoid public until advised by treating medical practitioner
  • Notify Caring for You directly.

If you have been in close contact with someone who has coronavirus disease (COVID-19):

  • Stay at home (self-quarantine)
  • Avoid public settings for 14 days after you last came into contact with them.

Practice good hygiene:

  • You should pay close attention to good hand hygiene. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, especially before eating and after using the toilet.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a tissue - or cough into your elbow.
  • Dispose of the tissue into a bin and then wash your hands afterwards
  • Face masks are not recommended for use by members of the public, although anyone who wants to be cautious can of course choose to wear one
  • Should any healthcare professional be required to treat a suspected or confirmed case, they will be supported by following standard infection control guidelines of the facility.

Please note that you will be sent home from any booked Caring for You shifts if you have travelled or been in contact with someone who has travelled to any of the listed Countries above within the last
14 days.

Members may also be required to sign a "Corona Virus" declaration when arriving on shift at the request of the facility.
