Latest Corona-virus Information to Members

Dear Members,

Caring for You is committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of all staff, patients and residents in relation to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and therefore, are closely monitoring and being guided by the precautions and instruction from the World Health Organisation and the Department of Health.

The World Health Organisation has now declared the coronavirus (COVID-19) a global pandemic.

Given the escalated risk that COVID-19 presents to the community, Caring for You is introducing increased measures to help prevent the spread of infection. This is particularly important given our work with vulnerable people who are at greater risk of serious infection.

It is very important that we all continue to work together to reduce the risk of spread of any infection.

Please note the following additional measures that apply to all Caring for You employees:

Overseas travel:
From today, any staff member who is returning from overseas travel from any destination must not attend work for a period of 14 days after they return;
  • If you fall unwell during the 14-day isolation period, you will need to provide a medical
  • clearance certificate indicating you are well and fit for full duties to return to work;
  • You will be required to advise Caring for You to seek clearance before you return to work;
  • If you intend travelling overseas, we advise you to reconsider your travel plans;
  • If you decide to pursue your travels, you do so in the knowledge that you will not be allowed to return to work for a period of 14 days upon your return;

Any healthcare worker or residential aged care worker who has been in any overseas country in the previous 14 days should not attend work until they have been well for 14 days after leaving those countries.

When to self-isolate:
  • You must not attend work for a period of 14-days if the following applies to you:
  • You have recently returned from overseas travel from any destination;
  • A member of your household has recently returned from overseas;

If you are a confirmed case of coronavirus COVID-19; or have developed symptoms of fever and breathing difficulty or cough:

  • Seek medical care
  • Stay at home (other than when seeking medical care)
  • Avoid public until advised by treating medical practitioner.
  • Notify Caring for You directly.
If you have been in close contact with someone who has coronavirus disease (COVID-19):
  • Stay at home (self-quarantine)
  • Avoid public settings for 14 days after you last came into contact with them.

If you become unwell for any reason, you must not present to work and only return when fully recovered. If you suspect you may have symptoms of the coronavirus or influenza, seek medical attention and follow Department of Health advice and advise Caring for You immediately.
 

How can you help prevent the spread of COVID-19?

Everyone should continue to practise good hygiene and other measures to protect against infections, including COVID-19. Ensure that you have undertaken your referesher training on infection control essentials such as hand hygiene on Qintil and remember to :

  • Pay close attention to good hand hygiene. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, especially before eating and after using the toilet;
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a tissue - or cough into your elbow. Dispose of the tissue into a bin and then wash your hands immediately afterwards;
  • Face masks are not recommended for use by members of the public, although anyone who wants to be cautious can of course choose to wear one;
  • Should any healthcare professional be required to treat a suspected or confirmed case, they will be supported by following recommended infection control guidelines of the facility.

Please note that you will be sent home from any booked Caring for You shifts if you have travelled overseas or been in contact with someone who has travelled overseas as of 16th March, 2020.

Members may also be required to a sign a "Corona Virus" declaration and complete testing precautions when arriving on shift at the request of the facility, we ask that you comply with the facilities request at all times.

As this is an evolving situation, Caring for You will continue to update you as the situation is changing, we appreciate your cooperation and understanding throughout this time.
